You can vote in Minnesota if on election day you:
will be at least 18 years old on election day
are a citizen of the United States
are a Minnesota resident for 20 days immediately preceding election day
are a resident of the precinct in which you wish to vote
are not under court-ordered guardianship in which the court revokes your right to vote
are not found by a court to be legally incompetent to vote
have the right to vote because, if you have been convicted of a felony, your felony sentence has expired (been completed) or you have been discharged from your sentence
You can register to vote at your polling place on election day. You must show the election judges ONE of the following documents:
1. Minnesota driver's license, learner's permit or Minnesota identification card (or a receipt for any of these documents) that includes your current address.
2. If you are a college student, you may use a:
Current student identification card or registration card that includes your current address.
Current student fee statement containing your current address and a photo identification card.
Current student identification card including your photo (if your college has provided a student housing list to the County Auditor).
3. Oath of a registered voter in this precinct who can vouch for your residence in this precinct. Employees of nursing homes, shelters and certain other residential facilities may also vouch for the persons who reside there.
4. Prior registration at another address in this precinct.
5. Notice of late registration mailed to you by the County Auditor.
6. Tribal identification card containing your name, signature, address and photo.
OR
7. One document from EACH of the following groups:
a. Minnesota driver's license or identification card with a previous address, U S Passport, U S Military identification card, tribal ID that contains your signature, or student identification card from a Minnesota college. These document must contain your name and photo.
b. Original bill for gas, electric, telephone, cable TV, water, sewer, or solid waste services. These documents must include your name and current address and have a due date of 30 days prior or after the election date.
All voter registration applications are subject to verification. Registrants who have not yet voted in a federal election and who register by mail may be required to show an identification document before voting if their identity cannot be verified by the County Auditor's office prior to election day.
