DFL Fourth CD

Event and Activity Calendars

A set of calendars have been established for the Fourth CD and the Senate Districts contained wholly or partially within the Congressional District. These calendars are hosted on an Internet accessible web server and therefore are available to anyone with Internet access.

Access to the calendars is controlled by passwords for event management and administration, but is available to anyone for viewing the events. The Chair of each district has the responsibility for managing the calendar for their district, or delegating that responsibility to someone else, such as the district secretary. Care should be taken with the login ID and password for each calendar to prevent an unauthorized person from adding, editing, or deleting events.

The calendars are structured so that the entries added to the Senate District calendars flow through to the Fourth CD calendar. These entries are marked with the identifier of the calendar they are used from so that a viewer of the Fourth CD calendar knows on which calendar the event was created. For example ,an entry made on the SD53 calendar shows up on the Fourth CD calendar like:

[SD53]
6:00pm - 8:00pm
Manitou Days Parade
White Bear Lake

Campaign Calendars

Calendars can be easily established for individual campaigns, if so desired. Please contact Craig Wilson at 612-865-8794 or craig@wavefront.net to see about getting a candidate calendar setup. These calendars could also be tied to the Fourth CD's calendar so that events, such as doorknocking, lit dropping, and fundraisers could be added to a candidate's calendar and the event would show up on the Fourth CD calendar.

As well as providing a visual reminder of when events are, the calendar system can be set up to provide electronic mail reminders to a list of e-mail addresses. This means that e-mail notification can be sent to people a day in advance of the event, as well as a couple of hours before the event. Like virtually every aspect of these calendars, the notification arrangement is very configurable.

Administering Calendars

To manage and administer a calendar, you need to login. To login, go to the calendar using one of the addresses specified above. At the bottom of the calendar page in the lower right corner is a link to the login form. At the login form, enter the login ID and password that has been supplied.

Once logged in, there will additional capabilities available, which can be accessed through links at the bottom of the calendar.

The Add/Edit link presents a form like the following:

Simply fill in the pertinent fields and click the 'Create Event' button. If you wish to provide e-mail notification and event reminders, prior to creating the event, scroll the screen down and fill in these parts of the form.

Another way to get to the Create Event form is to click on a date in the calendar. This will open the form to create a new event on that date.

There are a great number of options and featres that can be configured for a particular event, as well as for the calendar in general. Most of these configuration options are self-explanatory. If you have a question about any of the options, please send an e-mail to support@dfl4cd.org detailing the problem or question.

To administer calendar settings, click the 'Settings' link. From this page, all aspects of the calendar, including colors, fonts, titles, security, etc., can be managed. You can also include events from other calendars in the Congressional District, if you wish.
